The Midget Football League of Manitoba congratulates former St. Vital Mustangs Alex Vitt and Derek Dean on joining the University of Manitoba Bisons in 2012.

The two standout receivers were joined by five other Winnipeg Rifles offensive starters in the Bisons' recruiting class, which included quarterback Ryan Marsch, the 2012 Canadian Junior Football League Most Outstanding Offensive Player.

"Our top recruiting ground has long been the Winnipeg Rifles junior football program,” stated Bisons coach Brian Dobie.  “This recruitment class further strengthens our ties between the Bisons and Rifles.”

Dean, 21, played the last three seasons (2009-11) with the Winnipeg Rifles:

• In 2010, he grabbed 13 catches for 269 yards (20.7 yards per catch) and one receiving TD
• Before Rifles, the Winnipeg native played quarterback with the St. Vital Mustangs

• Named PFC Outstanding Receiver for 2011
• The 6’2”, 205 lbs. receiver was first in PFC in receiving with 755 yards on 43 receptions along with six receiving TDs (eight total TDs) in 2011
• In 2010, he grabbed 20 catches for 315 yards (3 TDs)
