Game Summary

On a gorgeous Saturday afternoon, the visiting North Winnipeg Nomads were not to be stopped by the home club Transcona Nationals.  Led offensively by QB Justin Klaprat (3 TD passes) and the inside running of veteran Tyson Haines (3 TDs) and rookie Zachary Sarraillon (2 TDs), the Nomads effectively controlled the clock and kept the Nationals offense off of the field.  When the Nationals did have the ball, QB Scott Cooper looked often to Zane Choquette for a spark when he wasn't handing-off to RB Matt Gross.

The star of the Nationals on this day was jack-of-all-trades Joshua Onyebucchi, who was around the ball all game on defense and contributed a number of solid kickoff returns.  And though the team does no doubt wish to require his services less often, punter Braden Bordynuik had an impressive game kicking Transcona out of its own territory.

The Nomads got another impressive effort from a trio of pass catchers that had been heavily involved the previous week- 3rd year wide receiver Trevor "McLovin" Pomarenski, 2nd year slotback Erik "Double-zero" Deboer-Borud, and rookie tight end Mason Kelley.  Linebacker Jeremy Harris was relentless in his pursuit of the quarterback, though his judgment as a kick returner left something to be desired.

As both teams now look to next week, each is hoping to get a boost from the possible return of key players- RB/KR Layton Turk-Rollock for the Nomads, and QBs Thomas Gut and Luke Frankenberger for the Nationals.

Speaking of "bergers", this attendee was very impressed by something he ate at halftime called the "Nat Burger"- Transcona Football Club's $7 (or $8.50 with chips and drink) Bacon Double Cheeseburger...with Chili.  Seeing that I've lived to tell about it, I give it two big thumbs up, even if the taste of the bacon was somewhat lost in the chili.  4.5 Stars out of 5.
